In May 2020, super-cyclone Amphan hit Eastern India, causing severe destruction in West Bengal including Charunibash, a home for the impoverished elderly in Kolkata. Caring Hands funded the renovation and expansion of the residential facilities for the elderly. Charunibash in Madhubati Village is run by Friends Of Kolkata’s Elderly (FOKE) and is also used as a community center for free primary education, vocational training, medical camps, and cultural activities. The home houses 12 seniors including 11 women and 1 man.
