Lunch bag service Grocery FAQs

What is the lunch bag service?

Lunch Bag Service is a key program of Caring Hands in which volunteers prepare lunch bags for homeless shelters and deliver it to the shelter. The program initially started with lunches, but has also expanded to include breakfast and snacks as well based on the current needs of local homeless shelters.

What is the overall process?

Caring Hand volunteers sign up to host a lunch bag service event in their homes using the Caring Hands sign-up form via email. Please note the volunteer must be on the Caring Hands email list in order to be included for hosting this program. These events typically occur every Saturday and Sunday from 3-5 pm. Any volunteer can sign up for the event on a first-come first-serve basis. Once the event is finalized, the lunch bag service host then buys the items from the lunch bag service shopping list and prepares the lunch bags at their home with help from other volunteers. Once done, they deliver the packaged meals to the shelter. Caring Hands will then send a donation receipt to the host of the lunch bag service for the cost of the packaged meals. These receipts can be used for tax services as a donation to the HomeFirst shelter. Volunteers who wish to get volunteer hours through this program will be credited with volunteer hours on request.
