A Home of Hope: Expanding Sanctuary for Abandoned Seniors
In an era of shifting societal dynamics and the rise of nuclear families, we are witnessing a heartbreaking reality: the increasing neglect and abandonment of our senior grandparents. These are individuals who dedicated their lives to building our communities and nurturing future generations, yet now find themselves alone and vulnerable.
For the past eight years, the Saheed Yuva Sangha (SYS) organization has been a beacon of hope, providing a safe haven for 25 such abandoned and neglected seniors in the outskirts of Nayagarh, Odisha, India. With funding from the Central Government covering running expenses, SYS has ensured these residents receive the care and respect they deserve. However, the current infrastructure—a basic cottage with a tin roof—is simple and humble, reflecting the immediate need that spurred its creation, but not the long-term dignity and comfort these seniors deserve.
The need to expand is critical. We see more seniors in need of a safe place, and the current facility is bursting at the seams.
Caring Hands is partnering with SYS to embark on a significant expansion project. Our shared mission: to double the capacity of the old age home, transforming the basic infrastructure into a comfortable, dignified, and supportive environment for around 50 residents.
This expansion is more than just adding rooms; it’s about providing a true home. It’s about offering warmth, accessibility, and quality of life to those who have been forgotten.
