Bansberia is a region about 60 miles south of Kolkata, India, that consists of a cluster of 13 villages with a population of approximately 44,000. The area is impoverished with poor sanitation and limited resources. Roughly 800 out of the 2,000 families cannot afford toilets. To improve hygiene, we sought to build toilets and provide clean drinking water as basic human necessities. Additionally, we improved the school infrastructure of 9 primary schools and built a medical clinic. We also ran tutorial classes for low-performing students to prevent school dropouts and held a once-a-week medical clinic. In total, we have built 730 toilets with a 20-50% contribution from villagers and have established tube wells in each village for clean drinking water.
