Dr. Sakti Das Memorial School
In memory of our beloved co-founder Dr. Sakti Das, Caring Hands Foundation is collaborating with Tuhina Chatterjee to create the Dr. Sakti Das Memorial School in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal
At present they have six classes (Nursery to Standard IV). This school has been also been effective in improving female literacy & stopping child labour in the village. The establishment of a well-equipped school will have transformative effects on the community. In addition to academic instruction this also intends to address pressing health and nutritional needs by offering regular health check-ups, eye and dental screenings, and a daily nutritious meal at the school, significantly enhancing the well-being of students who often face under-nutrition and limited healthcare access.
The school’s development will also provide employment opportunities, from teaching positions to administrative roles, contributing to the local economy and creating a sustainable support system for families. Over time, as the school expands to include secondary levels and vocational training, it will further empower the youth with skills for meaningful employment, ultimately leading to improved livelihoods for families in the vicinity.
The school is expected to directly impact approximately 300 students, providing them with free, accessible primary education and indirectly an estimated 800-1,000 community members.
Social worker, Tuhina Chatterjee will be overseeing the construction of this school. She has independently adopted the underprivileged village of Khas Sankdaha in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Her goal is to uplift the standard of living in the village by economically empowering its residents and providing basic facilities. She emphasizes the importance of active participation from the local community to ensure holistic, sustainable development.
