Swarachana School, Kaintain, Uttar Pradesh, India
Description
The Swarachana Learning and Resource Centre is in Kaintain, the heart of rural Uttar Pradesh(UP). Kaintain is a village in the Sidhauli Block of Sitapur district, an area comprising of mostly Dalit (untouchable) villagers. It has very few basic amenities and even fewer available public services. The Swarachana Learning and Resource Centre is more than just a school; it is a space for the children and young people of Sitapur to explore who they are and where they want to go in life. Swarachana School started in 2007 and is the only high school for 13 villages in Sidhauli Block. It currently has 347 students with 3200 sq ft of classroom space. The plan is to double the strength of the school to 700, increase the area of the school to 10440 sq ft, and improve the infrastructure of the school so that it meets the requirements set by UP Board to become an UP state approved school.
